Viewing Images


If you are having difficulty viewing well log TIFF images on our web site, chances are you need to (1) install a viewer that supports TIFF images, (2) properly configure your image viewer, or (3) resolve other Internet Explorer issues.

VIEWERS

If you do not currently have a viewer that supports TIFF images, you will need to install one.  A few shareware programs that seem to work are listed below.  The division does not endorse any of these products or recommend one over the other.

(This software has some problems with Internet Explorer 7.0.  This issue is caused by increased security in IE 7 for ActiveX controls. You can get around the problem by disabling "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" under IE Advanced settings (Tool/Internet Options/Advanced (security). This program is no longer supported by Haliburton.)

CONFIGURATION

If you have a viewer installed but it still won't open when you click on a TIFF image file, try the following:

  • Double-click on "My Computer"
  • Click on "Tools"
  • Click on "Folder Options"
  • Click on "File Types"
  • Locate the TIF and TIFF file extensions and click on them
  • Click on "Change"
  • Select one of the displayed viewer programs or browse to locate your desired program and click on "OK"

CONFIGURING HALLIBURTON VIEWER

If you are attempting to use the Halliburton Log Viewer with Microsoft Internet Explorer, we suggest you try the following:

  1. When running the viewer install program, select "Internet Explorer" as the "Associated Browser".
  2. When running the viewer install program, select "Yes, associate TIFF files with this application."
  3. If you try to view log files after the viewer is installed and it will not open, you may need to a
  • Double-click on "My Computer"
  • Click on "Tools"
  • Click on "Folder Options"
  • Click on "File Types"
  • Locate the TIF and TIFF file extensions and click on them
  • Confirm that they are both set to open with Internet Explorer
  • If not, click on "Change"
  • Select Internet Explorer from the list of displayed programs.

NOTE:  USING MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER, Version 7
If you are attempting to use the Halliburton Log Viewer with Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, you may need to 

  1. Go into Internet Explorer's menu to Tools / Internet Options / Advanced (security), and make sure the box is un-checked for "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer".
  2. Tell the Pop-up Blocker to accept the Halliburton Active-X application if Internet Explorer tries to block it.

If you continue to encounter viewer problems, contact your computer support person for assistance.

OTHER INTERNET EXPLORER ISSUES

If you click on a link to a TIFF image and are still unable to open it, you may need to obtain the latest service pack for Internet Explorer.  Please refer to Microsoft Help and Support, "Cannot Open a Tagged Information File Format (TIFF) File in Internet Explorer," at
