ONLINE OIL and GAS INFORMATION SYSTEM - HELP
Searching for Data
From the search screens, you can select the desired parameters by clicking on the drop-down boxes and then by typing in the criteria for your search.
Using a well's API Number (American Petroleum Institute standard format for numbering) is usually the most acurate way to pinpoint searches for individual wells. In Utah, all API numbers begin with '43' (the API state code for Utah). The next 3 digits represent the county (see county codes). Digits 6 thru 10 are a sequential number assigned when a new well is permitted for drilling. Digits 11 thru 14 are not yet being used in Utah, but in some cases are shown as '0000'. A search done where "API Well Number is Like 43037" will retrieve all wells in San Juan County.
Searches by well status can be performed by selecting 'Well Status' from the first drop-down box, setting the second box to 'Like', and then typing all or a portion of any one of the following statuses into the third box:
Active
Approved permit (APD); not yet spudded
Drilling (Spudded but not yet completed)
Drilling Operations Suspended
Inactive
Location Abandoned
New Permit (Not yet approved or drilled)
Plugged and Abandoned
Producing
Returned APD (Unapproved)
Shut-In
Temporarily-AbandonedSearches by well type can be performed in like manner by using all or part of any one of the following types:
Dry Hole
Gas Injection Well
Gas Storage Well
Gas Well
Oil Well
Test Well
Unknown
Water Disposal Well
Water Injection Well
Water Source WellSearching by date is another popular option. This can be done by selecting the appropriate date field (report period, date approved, etc.) from the first drop-down box, setting the second box to 'Like', and then typing all or a portion of a date within a particular year (e.g., Date Approved Like 2006). Or, a range can be entered by setting the secong box to 'Between', and then typing in two dates separated by a comma (i.e., Date Approved Between 10/1/2005, 6/30/2006).
Searches can be made more powerful by adding additional search parameters. This can be done by clicking on the 'AND' button and adding another line of code. For example, a search can be made for all producing wells (Well Status LIKE Producing) in Uintah County (AND County Name LIKE Uintah).
SEARCH EXAMPLES
Example 1: Navigate to "Production" then "Search Production Data." Click on "Operator" in the first drop-down box. Leave the parameter "Like" in the second drop-down box. Type in a company name such as "Exxon" in the 3rd box (where it initially says "Use Comma for Multiples"). Your search should now look like this:
Click on the "Submit" button to return your results. A list of ExxonMobil API well numbers should appear. Click on each API number to return the production data for that well.
The list of API numbers can be switched to Well Names by using the drop-down box in the results column:
The returned data can be sorted by clicking once on any of the column headers. The sort order will be reversed by clicking one more time on the same column header.
To begin a new query, click on "New Query" in the menu
Example 2: To find production for 3 API Well Numbers, type the numbers into the 3rd box (where it initially says "Use Comma for Multiples"), separating each number with a comma. Click on "Submit":
Example 3: To narrow the search from Example 2 above to select just the wells currently in a "producing" status, you will use the "AND" button. Once the "AND" button is clicked, a new line will appear for additional parameter selection. Change the 1st box to "Well Status," type "producing" into the 3rd box, and then click on "Submit". Of the three wells above, only one was returned as currently in a producing status:
Example 4: To further narrow the search results from Examples 2 and 3 above to show production reports of the selected well for June 2003 through December 2003, you will use the "AND" button again. Once the "AND" button is clicked, another new line will appear for additional search parameter selection. Change the 1st box to "Report Date", the second box to "Between", the 3rd box to "6/1/2003, 12/1/2003", and then click on "Submit" (NOTE: All production, disposition, injection well, and injection project monthly reports are dated the 1st of each report month). The results appear as follows:
![]()
Example 5: To perform a search by well location (township and range), click on "Location (Twn-Rng)" in the first drop-down box (see illustration below). Change the parameter to "Equals" in the second drop-down box. Type the desired location, such as Township 16 South, Range 24 East, into the 3rd box using the following format: 16S-24E. Click on the "SUBMIT" button. You can further narrow the search results by using the "AND" button options as described in examples 3 and 4 above and thereby performing additional searches by "Section" and/or "Well Status", etc.
